M8 and Cheap-O Flash?

I have a "knock-off" chinese flash I want to use with my m8. I have heard several warnings about damaging your m8 with a non-leica or Metz flash. I have the Yongnuo 460II. Any advice would be much appreciated!

It has something to do with the electrical compatibility b/w the two devices, which may have different tolerances. I have read about the warnings as well, but have not actually heard of someone frying their M8, though I wouldnt be the one to want to find out the hard way.
You could take your M8 and the flash to a camera store/repair/dealer and see what they say.

Those yn460s are safe for digital and will work fine on your m8. Tried and tested that myself. Ps I used a nikon sb28 with my m8 with no problems either

There's a thing about using old flashes with modern cameras. The voltage of the flash was higher back then and could fry the electronics of modern cameras. I read somewhere that the digital M's have a higher tolerance than the DSLR's. But still, I wouldn't chance it if the flash is more than 10 years old.

I use a cheap Holga flash on occasion and it works well. Also had a Metz C-2 and C-6. Both have malfunctioned on me. But worked great when I first bought them.
