M8 and visoflex II

I have the visoflex II and the 45-degree prism. It doesn't clear the top of the M8. Am I right in thinking that I could either get the 90-degree 5x magnifier, or get the visoflex III (and retain the 45-degree prism, which I prefer)?

The 45 deg finder from the VIII fits and works correctly on the VII. Additionally that finder is a High Eyepoint finder and is easier to see and focus. I find the instant return mirror on the VIII to be also quite useful. You might check out Bright Screen for a better focusing screen that is marked for the M8 sensor.

Thanks for the info. My problem is that I want to keep the viso II prism (which is the eye-level type; I don't know if it's called the 45-degree or not). I am thinking of buying the viso III 'body', which being taller, could be fit on top of the M8; I then apply the viso II prism to it.

I know that the viso III could be adjusted in a number of ways. How important are these features, especially when used on a metering camera? Also, could the 'arm' on the viso III be adjusted (that is, could it sit right on top of the shutter release of the M8)?

I like the Viso-II prism also (it has an adjustable diopter) but having tried,
unfortunately, the M8 is just enough taller that the Viso-II prism won't fit. A Viso-III prism is needed. The release arm strikes the M8 shutter button a little off-center to the front, but if properly adjusted (so the mirror pops when the arm just touches the shutter button) the release arm does hit squarely and works just fine.

The VII and VIII are exactly the same height. They have to be because the position of the ground glass must be the same to focus properly. The difference is purely in the 45 degree finder (actually 90 degree). The verticle finder (0 deg) is the same for both VII and VIII. The VIII 90 degree finder fits all M's, including the tall M5. The 90 deg finder allows your eye to focus and reverses/inverts the image while turning it.

The arm adjustment is the same on both VII and VIII.

The Viso II finder has a step in it's base that prevents it fitting M6/M8 etc

The Viso III finder has a flat base that allows it to clear the top of the camera.

Unfortunately this Viso III finder has no diopter adjustment (unlike the Viso II)

The actual Viso bodies are the same height.

I think ( I am not sure) that the diopter lenses for Leicaflex/SL/SL2 will fit the VisoIII but have yet to track one down!

Thanks for all the input. I went for the Viso III, and it works. The picture shows a Telyt 200/4, mounted on the 16466M adapter. I also tried the viso III on a Hexar RF. Unfortunately, the arm does not hit the shutter release. Alas!

Would this 'Leciatime' shutter release any help, as I'm interested in the setup too.

The tripper arm does hit the shutter release close enough. With the 'leicatime' added, I fear the 'touch' or contact might not be as direct or crisp. You do know that for a split second, the viewfinder will be black, and during that time, the M8 has to do the metering.
These two pictures I took at the Hong Kong Aviary, using the Visoflex 400/5.6 with televit, on the M8.

I just bought a Visoflex 2 without a prism on Ebay for a fair price. It seems from what I read here that the Visoflex 2 will work if I play around with th arm that trips the shutter. Is this in fact true?

Viso II with eye level prism from a Viso III. Viso II eye level does not clear camera. Shutter release arm should fit.
