Any observations on battery life yet?

My battery died already. I am at day 2 since a full charge and 69 shots. I did leave the camera on, but the auto power off is selected at 5 minutes.

I just wonder what people are experiencing.

Charging:mad:

I got about 400, but I'm not sure of the exact number, because I kept erasing the card and starting over, and didn't think to look at the counter when I was recharging. If you got 69, something's not right.

I also discovered, I think -- I'll check it after the next full charge -- that the battery display (which is in thirds) shows one-0third gone when only about 25% is used, two-thirds when only about half is used, and the last third on thge battery represents about half of the shots.

I'd be interested in what other people have experienced with that.

I should say, I ASSUME the battery is dead. The camera would not turn on no matter what. I tried turning it off and back on. Tried engaging the shutter release. So, I assume the battery is discharged.

I also PRESUME that I have auto off set to factory default. I can't check, since I don't have access to the menu, because the battery is charging.

I think this qualifies as a minor problem. My first charge went unexpectedly quickly. Next charge held for, oh, 300 pictures. Third charge is holding more. This is what the instructions tell you -- charge it and let it drain three times before expecting it to operate normally. JB

The only problem being- if the battery reads half-empty and you want to go out
next day you'll have to recharge it before it is completely drained, as there are no spare batteries on the market yet. Mine read half-empty after 150 shots and a lot of chimping.Recharging now.

My first charge did well over 300, almost 400 shots with a lot of screen-glancing (I cant use the c-word ;) I'm pretty pleased with that.

Yesterday first charge of the M8's battery out of the box netted about 80 shots but that included MUCHO chimping as we tried to discover every menu option and learn about the camera.

Fully charged overnight and going to church this morning to see what images it can capture. Plus, of course, to let that poor segment of society that somehow esteems Nikon products fondle.

Thanks Grober

That's about what I experienced, also with much chimping and a lot of menu playing around. A good thing is, I fully drained it, so now I have fully charged it for the second time. Let's see what happens.

I'm sure this will a YMMV thing.
