I have a brand new generic M8 battery that my M9 refuses to recognise, even though the Leica charger says it is fully charged. Leica has become too clever and my late M9 will only accept the real thing!
So - free to a good home (in Australia only - I'm paying postage!). First to PM me with your name and address wins the chance to see if it works with your M8

The generic battery does not necessarily work in M8 either. just throw it away...

Battery is spoken for - thanks.

Well known issue with generic batteries. Don't throw yours away. Discharge it fully in the camera and when the latter stops recharge the battery again. This is the only way to use generics on M8 and M9.

I use 12 generic batteries, and I have no problems at all with charging and with the M8/M9 recognizing the batteries as being charged. If the camera says: empty .. I push the function button, and it shows a full battery, then the camera calms down and accepts the battery

What do you mean by function button?

On M8 a full discharge usually helps with the battery meter displaying an incorrect level of charge (when using a generic battery). Other than that there is no difference between the generic batteries and the Leica ones that I have seen.Discharge it fully in the camera and when the latter stops recharge the battery again. This is the only way to use generics on M8 and M9.

There is a button on the M9 on the left side of the camera from the back. It shows the functions. This includes battery checking.
In my case, the M9 hesitated using the battery, but when I clicked on battery check, it showed a full battery, after which the M9 worked. Maybe it was coincidental.

Interesting indeed. My M8.2 does not seem to have this button but i never tried to reset the camera when my generics are not fully discharged. Will try this next time. Thanks for giving me a new idea.

But you can call me Steve
That's the "info" button, I believe. I don't recall if my M8 had one.

The info button just gives infos on pics displayed on the M8. Doesn't allow to check battery at all.

Just tried this to no avail so the only way to use generics w/o false meter readings on my M8.2 remains to discharge batteries fully in the camera before recharging them so far.…i never tried to reset the camera when my generics are not fully discharged....
