M8 hot shoe

I've been trying to use a Yongnuo RF603 flash trigger on my M8, however it doesn't seem to be able to insert all the way into the hot shoe as compared to my other cameras. This stops the trigger contacts from aligning properly with the camera and doesn't fire off. My Yongnuo flash fires off just fine when mounted on camera.

The hot shoe has a little screw at the end, not 100% sure what it's for. The hotshoe also has a little diagonal slope on the left side that seems to stop the trigger from going in all the way.

Has anyone ever had anything like this before?

The 'diagonal slope' is the top plate, not a spring, you cannot remove it. The screw is to stop the flash gun/trigger/viewfinder banging into that edge of the top plate.

If your flash gun works how about wondering if your flash trigger is faulty rather than your camera needing radical surgery? Even Leica's own flash guns hang off the back of the hot shoe a bit.

Ok, apparently it is a problem with the Yongnuo trigger for Canon not being compatible with the M8 (different pin configuration). I'll double check with a Nikon trigger.

I took the pin off of one of my m6's and the plate got loose. I wouldnt move it. Not I just put my trigger on with it hanging off the edge. Works fine. (I just have a cheap ebay trigger)

that is correct. A Canon trigger won't work. You might strike lucky with Nikon or Olympus, but are there no Leica ones ?

I had a similar problem with my Elinchrom transmitter . It would not slide into the hot shoe of the M8 or M8.2 all the way thus not firing the strobe . One work around was to to put the transmitter in backwards which allowed the contacts on the transmitter to make full contact . I grew tired of this solution as it caused the transmitter to protrude over the back of the camera making it uncomfortable to use the finder ..... I ended up carefully modifying the Elinchrom transmitter to fit properly into the hot shoe . The small screw pin in the hot show looked to be the problem at first but on closer inspection I could see where to "adjust" the transmitter to make it fit properly and now everything works as it should ....
I had another transmitter that worked fine without the "fix" .... anyway they are relatively inexpensive and the size is perfect for mounting on the top of the M8 , are relatively inexpensive and work with all flashes when using the transmitter along with a receiver .... especially if you get the older version ....

That should work. I use a Nikon off-shoe cord with the M8.

Thanks for your comments. I tried a Nikon version the other day and it didn't work as well. I'm not sure what's wrong, I'm able to manually short the pins on the trigger with a paper clip and the flash fires without a problem. Those two pins that I've joined seem to be able to contact the hotshoe, they are the front center and front right pin on my canon trigger however nothing happens when mounted.

Has anyone tried the M8/9 with a yongnuo 603? Also I don't see any pc sync port on the camera unlike the film Ms (not personal exp, just observing from pics). Is this right?
