M8 illuminating window

Sorry for such a remedial question. I've had my M8 for three months now and it's superb. However, I have just noticed with the illumination window I can feel the ridges when I rub my finger over . Is this correct or is it missing a glass cover. I'm sure it was smooth when I last had a fondle.

By the way sorry I haven't formally introduced myself, I'm Steve from Guernsey in the Channel Islands. Will try to be an active contributor.

Don't worry, your M8 isn't missing anything. The illuminating window should have the ridges on the outside like most of other Ms. (I think M3 is the only M with smooth window on the outside)

I think some of the M2 had M3 style window.

It's a Fresnel lens. It directs the light at the proper angle, so it falls onto the frameline mask.
