As special editions go, this one is underwhelming.

it may qualify for 'edition' being a limited run, but 'special?' I think not. The only special edition of late that I can see doing really well 20 years from now is the MP3. Hammertones, anthracites etc - very nice but not really that amazing. This M8 is comical.

Don't mix up secretive American venture capital groups with German and Austrian Aktiegesellschaften. Commercial/financial laws in both Germany and Austria are far more demanding regarding transparency than those of USA. With the same set of transparency in USA as in EU we hardly would have had a financial crisis on our hands, would we?
Mr Kaufman is an investor with wide ranging interests in particularly Austria. Sure. His investment in Leica is based on borrowed money. But he sure is no greenmailer. Tragicly: The Leica coffers were emptied long ago by the old owners. Herr Kaufman is the best thing that could happen to Leica.
Still, it could well be that this up and coming economical crisis could kill Leica - as we know it.
One advantage Leica has: The current losses as in low sales (basically just one camera product, and that on the downward turn of the sales curve) and R&D development are expected and calculated. The crisis will not impact the results very much, they are expected to be bad anyway. And as the economy picks up, the company will have new products and production facilities, an ideal starting point. It is in general not a bad idea to turn to R&D and investing in infrastructure during a crisis.

Well-known
Jaap , nice to see we have someone on the inside giving us the real information and putting all of the Leica naysayers in their proper place. I really do hate to hear any opinion that may be contary to a bright and rosy future for Leica, especially since none of them could possibly have the credibility of your isights in to everything Leica.:bang:

No insight needed ; just read the financial statements by Leica,ACM etc. It is all out in the open. The part about the losses and investment was paraphrased from the Leica report that came out when the rest of the world was happily selling hot air...

Another anti-panda sighting
Another anti-panda special edition arrived at my door this morning.
anti-panda M8
Given the current political climate in Taiwan, there are likely to be some people who are pretty darn pleased (or upset) by the name ("anti-panda"), at least, given to this style.
I myself quite like the way it looks sporting a ZM C Sonnar, an Abrahamssom softie, and an Artist & Artisan strap.
Now to see what it can do besides modelling for a Fuji F20!
