how much normally does it cost to fix that? It seems like it is a very common problem. Another reason not to switch to digi for me?![]()
All the cases I have heard of having this (Red Line) problem has been fixed 'free of charge' by Leica....

What were they doing between 03.12.2010 and 22.12.2010 ?
Wonder who will get their camera back first, did you send it yourself or through a dealer?

Mine is a blue line.

- It's the same thing, depending on which pixel that is 'hung'. It is repaired by installing a 'pixel remapping device'. If this 'device' is a software or hardware up grade, I don't know. Most likely a hardware.

Hopefully you will get it before me, I rang up and told them not to post it before the middle of January.
I'm actually suprised by how quick things are going. I first noticed the line over a year ago but waited until now as I was told the camera could be away for over three months (with the upper limit undefined).

I sent mine in around mid November. Different issue, though. It was just randomly shutting down - didn't happen a lot. But the final straw came while I was using it at a wedding. Fresh battery. Aimed it at the bride and pushed the shutter release. Nothing happened. Just a blinking red light.
Had to pop another battery in to revive it.
It was still under warranty, so I sent it back.
Not really sure where it is in the system, but I'm hoping I get it back by late January to early February.

have you tried the repair tracking all you need is the serial number.

Nah, but I did just hear from the guys at PopFlash, who are handling the communication with Solms.
They say it is in the repair stage right now - but also that this is the time of year when the Solms plant pretty much shuts down for holiday break. They are optimistic that the camera might be among the first batch to be worked on when work resumes.

I'm still amazed at how many people still buy these m8's with the knowledge that so many have problems. The wedding story for me would be unforgivable.
Are these cameras 100% after they are fixed by Leica? Do they then become what they should have been in the first place? Has anyone had a recurrence of the same problems after a fix? Is it just because there aren't other DRF options that people put up wuth this c@@p?

I fixed that by simply buying new batteries. What a relief! The Leica batteries should not be used for more than 'well a year'.

My M8 was sent to Solms for the Red Line Fix. Got it back after a short month, fixed, to no cost.
2)
Yes. The Red Line Fix is permanent.
3)
No, not to my knowledge. All cameras that have been sent to Solms for the Red Line Fix have stayed 'fixed'.
4)
- Sort of; yes. With the Red Line fixed the M8 is quite a performer. Besides M9, the M8 is the cheapest/best around that can utilise the wast range of excellent M-glass.

update-
My serial number stopped working with the repair tracking, emailed leica to ask for the job repair number within a couple of hours received email back with the number and information that its still in repair waiting for parts, one thing can be said about Leica they are very fast at answering emails!
If they are waiting for parts must mean its a hardware fix rather than software.
