Here are two more from that day:
Shanghai - a city, with unbelievable pace, leaves many people behind, some of them trying, to make a living with odd jobs. Many of them do collect bottles, which then are sold for approximately 0.02 USD a piece.

Thanks Rod - I have to admit, that despite the overall discussions on the web about portraits being distracting with such a thin dof, I really, really like these kind of portraits.
It might have to do, that the Noctilux draws very favorably, especially women or the overall look … I just like them.
Your first photo is just wonderful with a great moment and a natural smile.
I am quite surprised at the contrast of the Nikkor wide open @ 1.5!
The blacks are not clipped, but it is not a grey, low contrast affair obviously, which looks fantastic!
Did you have to cut of the black point and raise contrast much for this shot or is this the natural behavior of the Nikkor 85/1.5 LTM ?
(If the later, I am now seriously starting to search for a sample ;-) )

Thanks Mingkookoo! the glow will be less, when I am finished with the rebuild, but I actually love the lens, as it is now as well.
I guess, I am in, to find a second sample with hazed optics, just for this effect ;-)

Dirk, the B&W preset I used in Lightroom for this drops brightness from 50 to 22 and bumps the black level from 5 to 10. Contrast was left at the default 25. Here's the same image with brightness reset to the default 50 and black level to the default 5. Still decent contrast but not as much pop as the preset values. The important thing to me is that it didn't take much to get it to the version I posted last night.

Dirk, I like the cart shot. Very nice.
Mingkookoo, another Noct shot for you, also wide open. This one is very different but amazingly was shot at 1/15 second hand held! I continue to be surprised at how sharp the Noct is wide open. I've seen lots of posts talking about it being soft. I completely agree with Dirk that getting the lens matched with the body makes a really big difference in sharpness. If you do that then do your part focusing, you may get glow but it isn't soft unless you're comparing to the ASPH version.

One more with the Noct. I either had a little motion blur or didn't nail the focus as well as I would have liked. The light was lower than it looks in the shot though so it wasn't easy to see the focus.

Thanks. I agree about the noise. The original post is at 1250 and about as much noise reduction as I feel comfortable with in LR3. Part of the problem is that this is in a restaurant with a lot of colored lights. That's not as big a problem in this image as in others I've taken there but it's shown me that strong light colors can dramatically increase noise if you try to correct for them. Below is the same image after being processed through Imagenomic Noiseware Professional. It's dramatically better at removing noise but it requires a conservative touch or it ends up making the image look pasty. This version of the image still shows some noise but I could have completely cleaned it up if I was willing to sacrifice more of the image quality to do it. Nevertheless, where it works well, it works far better than anything else I've tried.

So much is made of the supposedly glowy, soft rendering wide open but you don't read or see so much of what it can do stopped down in good light. When I shot the ones below, I was pretty amazed at the sharpnees and presence (that's 3D to Zeissophiles) of the images. These were taken with an ND8 filter at about f/2 - f/2.8. Note that these small images strongly detract from their true IQ.

Yes Mingkookoo - had the 5cm Collapsible laying unused for a while, but recently have found about it's beauty for BW shots.
