The other thing I did with my M8 files was to always set exposure compensation to about -1.0 especially in high contrast shots. Shadows could always have details pulled out of them, but the CCD file was a bugger if images were over exposed due to its lack of dynamic range. I found this always paid dividends.I'm starting to get the hang of the M8's files.
Jpegs are crap but the RAW files are outstanding!
It will take some time to shoot the M8 just like I do with M film cameras but I feel I'm getting there.
