M8 purchase advice needed ...

thanks to all ...

thanks to all ...

All,

i have had my M8 for a few days. my first day was a bit stressful--as i struggled to figure out how to download files from the M8 to my computer, which uses vista. (on a side note, i plan to move backward and ditch vista.) when doing it directly via windowns, the downloaded files looked horrible! :bang:

anyway, after downloading on a non-vista computer (and now on a vista computer via a card reader), things are on much better ground. the IQ is great ... though i have a heck of a lot to learn (which will be fun). :)

thanks to all for your input!

The full frame M9 was supposed to be released later this year, according to Amateur Photographer, but that was before Lee was sacked. Notwithstanding you are right, things with Leica one never knows...

According to Leica The M9 was and is still many years away. The R10 is the expected new item from Leica this year. The mags and other still keep speculating on the M9, but it is not on the horizon now and will probably not be for many years to come, since Leica recently stated the M8 is the Flagship (M) camera for the forseable future.

I've heard that Leica doesn't plan to release an M9 any time soon especially with their new "an M8 is an investment" tagline. I think its pretty cool that they will let users upgrade their M8s to newer stuff.
I sure hope they don't release an M9 soon as Id be very pissed off, and I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one.

Not if the price of the M9 is announced- you'll count your blessings with the M8...;)

Advertising is mainly used to cover up for real or perceived shortcomings of the products they are concerned about.

Hello All,

OK, after a few months of pondering, I'm going to get an M8. I have considered different means of purchase: 1) new from online camera store or ebay; 2) used via RFF or ebay; and 3) demo via online camera store or ebay...

Buy new from a reputable and trusted dealer in your area where you can hold the camera and shoot a couple of frames.
