No. the M8 has different shutter blades.
There are plenty of spare parts for the M8, only LCDs have run out through an unfortunate chain of events, reason Leica has put a replacement/upgrade program into place for M8s needing an LCD repair. There are no spare parts available for the M8?
I had my M8 shutter replaced by Leica New Jersey in April. It cost $475.
Probably not. As far as I know from the numerous threads over at the Leica Forums, the offer is only applicable for those M8 owners with "unrepairable components" such as the LCD coffee stain issue, as there are absolutely no spare parts available.
Both Leica NJ and Singapore said that I'd need to have the unit sent to Solms to have it evaluated by a technician before they could give a free estimate on the upgrade cost. So it's either I take the HK option ($450-475) or send it in NJ and wait for them to tell me how Mj it costs to upgrade to an m9/m9p. Lots of work to get to an estimate
To anyone interested here's what I gathered from the options for the repair of my M8 shutter:
- replacement cost ranges from $1200 (NJ) to about $400 (HK) and this is for the 1/8000 original shutter
- for those who qualify for the M8 to M9/M9P program you would have to first send the camera to Solms for them to assess how much top up will be required to upgrade
Two things: First, as noted earlier in this thread, I had my M8 shutter replaced by Leica NJ for $375 (and that was in April). Second, I hadn't heard of an M8 to M9P upgrade. Interesting ... Any idea of much it would generally cost?
