Not sure.
I just responded to off topic comments.
May be you can answer yourself?

Very nice photo Steve. I too was curious about the border on the cheek and ear. Can anyone explain why that happens?

the 100% crop looks very good for f1.4! it's almost a summicron at f2.

As an owner of the 50 'lux asph., I found wide open it was great but stopped down just one stop, central sharpness was phenominal, about equal to a 'cron at f/2.8 or f/3.4. In the outer field however, sharpness was as good or a hair better with the 'cron. This is only film I'm talking about. Digital may behave differently.

I'm testing this lens on the M8 right now. In my mind it may be (technically) the best 50 mm lens ever made for small format.

I don't think it is disputed that skin is more transparent to IR than to visible light, and I have seen cautions/comments--not all in the hot-button M8 context--about how IR-sensitive media can disclose normally invisible blood vessels in a way that most would find unflattering in a portrait.Sailor Ted said:detail across a broad spectrum that went unnoticed (or less) when compared to shooting film in my M6
My question was really no different than someone asking "was the tuxedo really maroon?" The M8's IR sensitivity is well known, and people are going to ask these types of questions from time to time. The M8 has a small "unreliable narrator" problem, perhaps

On both sides it seems : ) That said from the perspective of those of us who do own the M8 it seems no matter what we post- whether it’s to share an exceptional image or to share our delight with others, there will always be those who will drag every thread down into the depths of IR filters, IR shift, ad nauseam. Of course those M8 owners who verbalize what most M8 users no doubt feel when such is the case are always branded something. I merely posted a different option for the OP to comment on. Based on his response it seems my suggestion was correct. On the other hand perhaps we are bit like Barack Obama supporters.

I wasn't clear. I didn't mean that people talking about the M8 were unreliable. I meant that the M8 itself could be an "unreliable narrator". My preference was to refer to an "unreliable narrator" *problem*, because it's not simply a matter of the narrator/camera giving results that don't match seen reality in the ways we expect (obviously, it's a photograph, so there are ways we expect it will not match reality). In literature, the unreliable narrator sometimes doesn't lie, which creates the real problem. An intelligent reader is always going to wonder what's true and what's a lie. Hence my question. Hence a question about maroon tuxedos. I'm not sure what else anyone should expect. Here's a situation where the "narrator" has been known to "lie"; is it lying in this instance?
This is a great illustration of why the fixation about who owns an M8 is silly. If I had an M8, I would shoot the back of my hand and decide for myself if the blood vessels in the photo matched what I see with my eyes. Isn't it the very people who don't have a camera who are often most curious about what it can and cannot do?

Matthew,
I understood what you meant (after looking it up ; ) Anyway my original post was just a different possibility for the OP to comment on. Also I feel we have unreliable narrators on both sides of the M8 isle as well as the images from the camera as you point out.
Cheers,
T
