I bought a few days ago a Zeiss Planar 45mm/2 (for the Contax G cameras) that has been adapted by Jim Buchanan to M mount. It cost me $750. I have such a lens in Contax G mount, and like many users of such lenses, I love using this lens as an AF lens on a film camera.

Today, I tried out the Zeiss M lens on the M8. I was curious to see whether the 45/2 would perform as well as it does on the Contax G.

The lens seems to be housed inside a Minolta 55MC, using a Hawkes adapter for the helical. Jim reworked the helical with new lube and he black anodized it. he told me that such conversions take a lot of time.

Anyways, now I am using this beautiful (black) lens.

As for choosing this lens, basically, it is choice between a ZM 50/2 and the 45/2 converted. The converted lens feels like any other lens, with easy to use focusing and aperture control.

I am glad that I bought the 45/2. It is a great lens overall.

nice!

I personally prefer this to the lens that succeeded it. 750 seems very fair, I can vouch for Jim's work and it's super quality stuff.

Jim seems to specialize in converting lenses to Canon EOS mount.
This lens is very special, and I am glad that I quickly pulled the trigger on it.
It is incredibly sharp.

I started a few minutes ago using this lens on the M9 in a room with low light. I set the ISO to 320, and the lens was wide open.
