M9 battery question

I just received an original M9 spare battery ordered online from a German online store. The box says M8 though. I haven't tested the performance yet, it is still charging, but I'm just wondering if I haven't been screwed, and the battery is an old production from the M8 days. Any clue?

The M8 and M9 take the same battery. Far as I'm aware, they didn't change the box or designation.

Correct M8, M9 , MM all use the same type of battery.

I also ordered an "original" M8 battery- Then I realized I can get from Ebay 8 batteries for the price of one "original", no shortage of power now...

I still haven't heard of a non-Leica battery which works correctly on M9.

To me, 'works correctly' means that battery charge level is reported correctly, and that the M9 doesn't repeatedly warn of 'battery low' on a fully charged battery.

As tele_player said, I have heard nothing but issues with the M9 and third party batteries. I looked into that when I bought the M9 and decided not to risk anything, so I bought one spare Leica battery when I got the M9. I'll buy another before I go on my next long trip with the camera.

That's generally as much as I need ... I see about 400-500 exposures per battery charge with the M9 and have only very rarely made that many exposures in one session. Having one spare is enough for most purposes; when I travel I want two spares so I can leave one on the charger and still have a fresh battery as backup if I go out on a moment's notice to do some shooting.

I may need an off brand charger. Which charger are you using? By Leica?

Issue resolved: I was informed by Leica the manufacturing date is imprinted on the battery. Mine is 0912P, which means week 9, year 2012. So it's a very fresh battery 🙂

I found that the third party batteries worked fine in the M8 but have never managed to get them to work well in the M9.

Correct M8, M9 , MM all use the same type of battery.

And the M-E does.

Third party batteries indeed work well in my M8.
Don't know about the other models, though.

Not sure of manufacturing date, but they changed the label design a few times. The one with no actual stick-on label on the front is the oldest one, and I've seen at least couple variations with slightly different front labels, both are a little newer than full plastic-font one.
