Found a huge crack on my beloved M9. It was serviced in August 2014 and had the sensor replaced by Leica in Germany.

I have recently relocated and could not find my warrant card. Anyone knows what I should do?

BTW, how long is the wait? Anyone has their CCDs replaced recently?

Best,
Harry

My M9 ccd was replaced last year by Leica having suffered from a crack. It took a couple of months. They checked my Monochrom over at the same time. No charge.

Send it to Leica. They will almost certainly replace it for free.

Serviced in 2014 would mean the new sensor it received back then is not the new replacement they now use, in addition to upping the firmware to the new 1.204. I bought my M9 used from Tamarkin so had no Leica warranty card at all, sent it in, in January and 4 months later had it back with a new sensor and nothing out of pocket beyond the cost of getting it there.

From what I have seen posted by others and my own experience, 4 months is a pretty good guess as to your wait time if you are in the USA. I think it depends on their stock of sensors at the time they receive yours, or when they last placed an order from Leica Germany, none of which you will have any way of knowing.

Thank you guys. A bit of update. Unlike other parts of the world, Leica HK/ China refused to take my camera because I did not buy it in this location. I emailed Leica about this situation and they told me this is against company policy.
Good news is Leica Kyoto agreed to take my camera and gave it a free CCD replacement in four weeks. I am very happy about this solution.

However they will not be able to send my M9 back to China due to their policy. I still need to figure out how to get it back.

Maybe you can find someone to act as an intermediary? To pick it up for you and ship it to you? Aren't there some RFF members in Japan?
Perhaps contact japancamerahunter.com and ask them?

Did you ask Leica Japan (Ginza, Tokyo) about getting the camera back to you?

Hi,

FWIW, I think Leica Wetzlar ought to be told this sorry story; they might even sort things out for you and so on...

I'll wish you luck.

Regards, David

Leica Japan could not help mail it back to me because of Chinese custom issue.

Leica Germany did reply and apologized about Leica HK's behavior. However, they could not help any more...

China customs issue? Does this mean there are issues with sending it, due to both China government policy, as well as Leica HK/China policy?

In others words, sending your camera to Leica in Germany is not an option? What was the reason they could not help / fix the sensor?

If you send out from China and ask the the repair facility to include your shipping label into the return package as a proof that the camera left the country only for the purpose of repair, this is still an issue with customs in China?

It depends entirely on the mood of the official working that day. It's the reason why I have yet to have my Leica's stiff rewind fixed. (it was stiff when we met up in Tokyo spring of 2015 - still haven't sent it in for fear of getting nailed on return)

Exactly. Picking it up from Japan is not a big problem for me though. I might just take one Friday off. Leica Kyoto has already received and I can expect to use M9 with brand new sensor in a month!
