M9 exposure lock issue.

Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a M9. I have been testing it for the past 3 days. I am having trouble with the exposure lock. It seems to only work intermittently. Does anyone else have the same issue? Any information is much appreciated.

Do you have your M9 set to "SOFT" mode? The exposure lock doesn't work in this mode.

Funny, because I tested my M9, and the exposure lock didn't work, so I looked in the manual.

And I just confirmed, if I set my M9 to "normal" mode, the exposure lock works fine. The little dot in the LED display lights up to indicate that the exposure is locked.

As Vickko has said the shutter needs to be set to 'normal'. But in addition when the M9 is brand new, and before the button has bedded in, some people have found it to be a little notchey making it difficult to feel the point of locking the exposure and before firing the shutter.

If thats the case just use the camera, it won't take long to lossen up.

I use to feel that way as well when i made the move from the M7. It is a little touchy at the start. but now I don't use the focus lock. I use the M9 like an M6. I find that the AE to be very inaccurate given tha I shoot in very tricky lighting conditions.

Agree w/ bene about the AE in the camera, under certain circumstances. Shoot a lot in clubs with stage lighting and black backgrounds. Found that while shooting AE, exposure from shot to shot would vary widely. Seems problem was that something like the reflection of a spotlight off a guitar would cause the camera to underexpose.

My solution was to go to manual, set shutter speed at 1/60, and adjust aperture while chimping the first few exposures until it looked just right.

Just look at the metering diagram. This is not a matrix meter but heavily centre-weighed or semi-spot. If you get a sharp light or a deep shadow in your metring field it will vary wildly - of course. So go to manual and read off the part that you want to expose correctly, or use an incident light meter. That is pretty basic, guys.

I took the M9 back to the store, and the service manager tested it out. It turns out that the EV lock switch is defective. A replacement camera is being FedEx in from New Jersey.
