M9-P or Digital MP hasn't been posted yet?

Looking at the seal pics, the camera does seem off. And I wouldn't put it past Leica to create such a camera. The white M8 comes to mind. And while an M9-P would be a beautiful looking camera, I can't stomach to think what the extra cost will be. If it's a prototype M10. Then the gods have blessed us because Leica is getting it right. If only the camera performs as good as it looks, it'll be perfect.

i only wish they'd make a M9-P for professionals.

I'd like to see an advance lever so one can get a true grip on the camera and not have to use a thumbs up.

I'd also like to see a M-Winder size battery / Grip so one can shoot all day with an extended battery pack. My D3 is a professional camera, and although the images don't come close to what my M9's produce it is a camera that can be relied on time and time again.

The M9 when it works is truly unique, but my film M's set the standard for what I expect out of a Leica.

Come on Leica, make a camera for professionals, not only a camera priced higher than all other 35mm Pro Cameras!

This MP-9 that is supposedly on Seal's body looks splendid, I hope it comes with options to choose the rangefinder magnification. I've 2 M9's, I only wish I could have one as a .58 and one as a .85, that would at least be a reasonable expectation.

I keep loosing my damn 21 viewfinders because they're in my Thumbs-Up.

I haven't even bought a new one as I know my 21 well enough to not bother spending another couple hundred dollars to leave on a concert floor somewhere, again, and again;)

I'd love to see a black enamel M9-P at least, I find that my M7 a la carte finish to be so much stronger than the M9 paint that although stronger than that of the M8.2 still wears off a bit too quickly for my tastes.

That's my 2c.

Best,

Jesse

If "P" means "Professional" as Jesse said then it makes sense.

However, if it's a play on the film MP, I'm not sure I understand what an M9-P would offer? Isn't the MP an all mechanical, back to basics Leica?

So a digital version would offer what exactly? A chrome, old school looking M9 that will sell for $15,000?

Either this is a really outlandish rumor or a special edition camera that will be out of reach for a normal dude like me.

An advance lever would be the easier way but if they dare not do it, they must find another way to make the next M as silent as a true Leica.

How anyone from those pictures can conclude that the camera has no advance lever is beyond me. I can only conclude the shots look blurred.

Gotta hand it to Seal & Heidi though, they got class. One of their sons is called Johan :D

As Seal likes his limited edition Leica's I would suspect its a boutique camera that has already been done, not a prototype. As for the 'P' in M9-P, its more likely to stand for pillock than professional as no professional photographer would spend more money than necessary on equipment, that is the realm of amateurs who dream, not photographers earning a hard won crust.

For me, I don't get, what the point of a M9-P should be - except for being nostalgic. Apart from that, I think the photos are fake.
edit: Real chrome would be nice and maybe leaving out the red dot. But that's just all about it.

Regarding Seal's cameras, he also has been using an X100 of late.

I remember Seal admitting here that he was a self confessed total gear head with almost every desirable camera on the market in his collection! :D

Considering that he joined this forum flaunting an M8 when no one else (virtually) in the world had one it would be quite logical for him to be wandering about with something that Leica have yet to announce to the world. He is very tight with Leica and they seem to love giving him cameras!

What would an M9-P have that the ordinary M9 wouldn't though ... aside from a more exhorbitant price tag? :p

I wonder if there are odds in Vegas to see how long it takes for this sort of thing to pop-up on every Leica-related thread.

Couldn't it be a film M?

Maybe a fusion of MP and M7? So motor-driven film transport, aperture priority and so on - stuff of the M7 (the motor would be new) in the body of an MP.
edit: Leica could praise it as "The most advanced Leica we've ever made, in the most beautiful body, we've ever made."

I just hope it costs more than $7000, since I just bought a regular old M9. ;)

I can't see it having a better sensor... has Kodak released anything better in CCD? Perhaps they made the switch to CMOS? I doubt it that quickly.

you know you're a gearhead when...
you dont read the gossip
you dont care about the good looking family
or the famous singer
you dont even take a second look at the supermodel wife
...instead you're trying to work out which leica is hanging from his neck :p
