Dear Andrew,
Rather nice pics with super-rare lenses, though I think some of the pics on your other thread (Astro Berlin) are even better. Then again, I find it hard to believe that the lens really matters all that much: just about any 50mm will give good pictures if used right, and you're using 'em right.
Cheers,
R.

The OOf rendering looks strange/ This lens is a rare lens, and as Roger said in your other thread, it is the photographer who is good.

It is the glow!!!

Wow, is the surface behind the iris severely degraded? I had one of these lenses.
It is a very typical fault - perhaps due to oil, perhaps coating degradation.
Mine never showed the bokeh that you have though.
Unfortunately a repair attempt on my lens failed, and rendered it unusable.

Vick,
Did you sell your lens then and is it still OK for portraits?

This copy is in pristine condition, it does glow when it is wide open.

Yes, I sold it in the spring, as "Parts, as is".

:angel:it's like Gaussian Blur was applied specially the last pic. If not then this lens has real character I've ever seen on a lens.

This lens does what it does beautifully, and good work from AWSLEE for nailing the focus....'Leica glow is supreme?!?' .....yeah whatever!?!

People on this forum often speak about the revered (and occasionally derided) but somewhat mysterious and elusive 'Leica glow'. What we see here, in these very interesting shots from the Zunow 50/1.1, is this special glow taking an extraordinary form. I for one am fascinated by these images, and I am sure many others will be too. Thanks Awslee for a great contribution.

I agree; one image looks like IR photography. I like them all.

Wow, that is different. I quite like the look. I'll be in Shanghai shortly... Not sure if I'll capture anything that spectactular, though! Nice work.
My favorite local camera shop owner's father had a Zunow 1.1. He doesn't have it anymore, unfortunately. Now, seeing these images, I really wish he did. He said their family album had lots of images from the Zunow... I wonder if they ever looked like this. I will ask him.

... likes film again.
I got similar results when a element in the front group of my Noctilux had come loose... Nice photos, though !
These shots are great! I much prefer the character of the lens in these shots. In the wide open B&W shots, its character is a little over powering. Just my opinion of course

Yikes, it's hard to tell if that's bokeh or finger-painting!

The best camera is one that still works!
I'm torn between thinking 'really cool' and 'optical freak show!'
Please post more so I can decide!

This is a very special lens! Beautiful images it renders. The photographer is good too
This lens is definitely NOT a normal 50mm though. It's like the aberrations of the Canon 50mm f/1.2 on steroids. I own the Canon lens and it's the fastest lens I've ever had. I've gotten to play with an original f/1.2 as well as later f/1 Noctilux and they all were very interesting optics to work with. Right now I'm becoming reacquainted with my rigid chrome Summicron 50mm but posts like this one are inspiring to take the f/1.2 Canon out for a day or two.
The good thing about the Zunow is that GAS isn't an option due to its rarity and expense!
Lovely shots in both threads of the Zunow images.
