M9 Question of resale value

I have a friend who bought an M9 last year or so. He is not comfortable with it, has a tiny Leica point and shoot with a zoom that he likes, but has a bunch of Leica prime lenses for the M9 and wants to keep those for use with another camera. He also has an M4 which he never uses but will hang onto.
He wants to sell the M9 but has no idea what it is worth. I have looked at it, it's in good shape, not mint, but no marks or scratches. Has the original box and probably the manual if he can find it. I am sure he would accept a return in 15 days if someone did not find the condition acceptable.

I saw them for between 5500.00and 6000.00 (US) in ShutterBug magazine about two months ago. As far as the user's manual, you can down load it from the Leica site.

Here in Europe M9s as the one you describe go for 70-80% of their price new.

I'm seeing them stuck (as in not selling) at $5400-$5500 over at FM, selling for $5200 on ebay. I saw a thread on someone's board about somebody scoring one for $4700. I'll be in the market for one before too long. 🙂
