M9 replacement sensor looks totally different. .

I had to send my M9 in for repair a while back. The glass on the sensor was separating. I am used to the way the surface looks as I clean it on a regular basis for dust as I do my Canons. I use the magnifier from the maker of Lens Pen.

Anyway, when I looked at it today, the first time since I got it back, the reflections are totally different. With the magnifier and internal lights it uses it is almost impossible to see the sensor because of the strange reflections that are almost polarized. They are totally different than the original sensor. I got the dust off but I had to keep adjusting my eyes and move the magnifier up and down to see the surface.

Anyway, the repaired M9, after I adjusted the focus because it came back close focussing with my calibrated lenses, is very sharp.

Sounds like the description for my sensor, unit purchased in April. Perhaps there was a slight change?

How is UV/IR sensitivity? I'm guessing they may have gone with stronger filtering, to keep up with the DSLRs??

When I shine a light on my new sensor I get a multitude of reflections going in different directions. It is bizarre looking. I mean the camera is sharp and to be honest as sharp as my 5DII but with a little better range. I can go to 100 percent and the image still looks like a full frame shot.

I found out that for a scratched LCD screen, because the entire back has to be replaced (real smart Leica) the cost is 750 dollars. Over a tenth the cost of the whole camera?

I found it to be the sharpest camera I have ever owned--much sharper than my 5DII.

As for the sensor, I'm surprised they don't charge more. Remember this is NOT a DSLR. It's got far less space, which limits configurations available. In addition, the whole sensor/AA/IR filter combination is a specially designed integrated component.
