With the new LV on the M(240), wouldn't a basic macro extender placed in between the camera and lens extend the MFD for quick close-ups?

If so, this would make it very convenient for all in one set-up without additional lenses or other bodies to do close-ups on the fly, say in a restaurant for a quick food shot. At this time I rely on a x-e1 with helicoid adapter for my close-up requirements.

Has anyone caught sight of such an adapter?

Not seen one.

I'm using a Nikon adaptor, and macro lenses at the moment, but it would be relatively easy for someone to make an M-mount helicoid adaptor I would think - doesn't need any coupling, unless you wanted to go nuts and light-pipe the 6bit code through :)

You'd lose auto focus zoom, but that's not a big deal, can still trigger it manually using the button on the front.

I do have some Nikon F extension tubes, but haven't seen any need to try them. I guess I could use M->F + extension tubes + F-M adaptors to mount my M glass, but it seems excessive :)

I think someone posted that they had an M-mount extension tube - meant for a visoflex I think. They got good results with a 28mm M-mount lens and the extension tube.

Sure, any extension tube will work. Remember also Visoflexes.

But I'm puzzled by "close-ups on the fly, say in a restaurant for a quick food shot". Why would you be shooting this? Or care about the quality if you did?

Cheers,

Food is a big part of my holidays so certain restaurants beg to be remembered. It is easier to travel around with just one kit. But you are right that quality in a case like this is not of paramount importance.

Did further research and found the OUFRO 16469 that serves the purpose i mentioned - using the Leica M as a close up tool.

I also checked in on Hawk's Factory and they mentioned they already have a design for a helicoid adapter (M-to-M) and will be manufacturing soon after some refinement/optimization.
