The Sopranos was great. But the best series that ever came out of US is The Wire.

Interesting to me that Montreal has a mafia. Or should I say people in Montreal believe there is a mafia. My only criticism is too few shots, but you probably couldn't control that.
edit: Also interesting that the patriarch of Montreal's mafia has an Italian sir name.
Of course, strictly speaking, only the Cosa Nostra in Sicily is the mafia. But it's fairly common to also apply that term to other crime organizations with Italian origin that have the mafia-specific type of structured hierarchy.
In the American context it might be more accurate to speak of the mob, though.

That would be Buffy, actually. Angel would be a close second.
And my vote for pics 1 and 3. All in all, not too shabby- thanks to OP for getting out there and shooting.

Yeah, in Russia the heads of the mafia type clans are typically Russians ie Ostankino and Lubertsy.
Maybe there are some separate French - Canadian mafia style families?

The best camera is one that still works!
We have them in Oz ... but they're a little harder to recognise in their flip flops and board shorts!

I think your cousins over the border have that market cornered!
To the OP ... Great photos and I'm not sure that I'd be too brave with a camera around such an event.
If you get home and find one of your prized cameras dismantled courtesy of an axe in your bed ... you'll know they weren't happy!![]()
I don't know Keith, I think spleeny is saying Canadians can be pretty tough.
I wonder if there is going to be a "war" like on Godfather to determine who controls all organized crime in Montreal.

Sigh ... I miss 'The Sopranos!'
Was there ever a better series to come out of the US?
Clearly you've never seen The Wire.

I would stay away from steak houses in downtown Montreal over the next few months.

Or Six Feet Under. Or Deadwood for that matter.

I live in Oz remember ... I don't always have the choice.
'Six Feet Under' was very good but it went horribly astray towards the end IMO.
I'm a bit of a 'Dexter' fan actually!

Great shots - and good editing if you took a bunch more. These are all strong.
...and on the TV subthread, Arrested Development?

Facinating!
Facinating!
This guy in the box, Don Nicolo Rizzuto sj. came to Canada in the 50', on the run, coinciding with a major Mafia crack-down in Italy, back then. From Agrigento, Sicily, a major heroin exporting town up through the 70' and 80'. His son is in jail in USA. His grandson was just shot dead by hit men. Don Rizzuto sj had just pleaded guilty on tax evasion charges, having 5,3 million Canadian dollars in a Swiss bank account. Somebody is after his money ('æh, share with us, pal..') or after his heroin market position.
Most likely, the drugs market is low and falling, in pace with the financial crisis. - The urge might be there, but not the money. This is a situation that creates these gang wars. There isn't enough money to go around for everybody. So, some have to leave the business. In a coffin.
If it hadn't been for Berlusconi's crack down on the Sicilian mafia, sending busloads of members to jail, Italy would have seen a major mafia drug war right now, according to an article in the news over here.
