Hi, is anyone entering the Lens Culture - Magnum Awards this year? I was thinking about submitting a 5 image series. Any thoughts?

Hi Gelspace
I entered last year in the 10 image series. The feedback was good, so this year I entered again the same category. Then when the news broke about the child sex trafficking image, I decided to withdraw from the competition. I'd already felt ambivalent about Lens Culture's approach to photography (spend money with us and you can be successful) and their response to the revelations was a disappointment to me.
Best wishes
Steve

Can you described the nature and extent of the feedback your received from Magnum? Can each entrant be assured of such feedback, or is it only available to those entrants who achieve a certain level in the competition?

I unsubscribed from LC. Just don't like what they are pushing. I like Leica Blog approach and some of photos, photogs. More life, less HDRish photos.

Entering certain categories of the competition (spending around $60) buys you an assessment of your entry by an anonymous reviewer regardless of how you do in the competition.
My reviewer showed they understood the relationship between my statement and the pictures: "for me, the strength of this work is that you are taking a time honored tradition-street photography- that so often focuses on aesthetics and the choreography of movement and you have shifted the methodology to create a different type of photo built around a concept"
They pointed out photos which were somewhat weak and those that were particularly strong and made recommendations about printing, publication, books and photographers, competitions, portfolio reviews and festivals and how to gain exposure.

Sounds like a $60 investment paid dividends.Entering certain categories of the competition (spending around $60) buys you an assessment of your entry by an anonymous reviewer regardless of how you do in the competition.

I have entered twice to two different COMPETITIONS Although any artwork of any nature must not face a level of any competition and I believe it. I was expecting to get a feedback but one of My entry was not received any feedback. The feedback I got was also the recommendations of other sources to follow and keep on to the competitions. So I unsubscribed to L/Culture. $60 investment for nothing.
