Hi,
http://agency.magnumphotos.com/about/eastlondon.aspx
this is a link to a workshop taking place late this June. Looking at this I can't help but wonder what this would be about. Perhaps they are having problem to make money with their photograph because £750 ($1500) per participant will keep them going for a while.
So what would one gain from attending such a workshop, apart from meeting other people whom it will be possible to discuss ideas, projects, etc... ?

Sounds interesting to me, the idea of working on a self conceived project guided by two Magnum photographers and viewing the work of other participantsover what would be a very intensive week. A bit pricey perhaps and probably beyond what I could show in the way of work that meets the criteria, otherwise I'd consider it.

To be honest £750 for a week of intensive work under guidance, including studio usage and provision of materials, while not exactly free, doesn't seem terribly overpriced either.

I've participated in workshops in the past, and usually I haven't seen the benefit from those workshops in the photos I've shot during the week, but more so in the months after.
I've heard Chris Steele Perkins give critiques before, and he does have some interesting insights into the pictures presented. Of course, how useful those insights will be to you, I can't say.
On the business side, Magnum members contribute a significant portion of their photographic income to the group but the group still has problems making ends meet - by their own admission, they are lousy business people.
