Last year I got a bunch of slide films from a friend, an accomplished professional photographer who has since moved on to digital, but to be honest I wasn't really sure how best to proceed with them. I've never shot slides before, but I know enough about it to realize that my usual casual technique for exposing B&W negatives would not be ideal. I also knew that the development cost would be higher, so I wanted to be a bit careful where I used my limited supply. My greatest concern, however, was that I would find myself really liking the results, which could end up being expensive and/or disappointing, depending on the long-term availability of E6.
We headed up to Maine for a weekend back in October, so I decided to load a roll of Velvia 50 into my Rollei 35, being one of very few cameras I own with a reasonably accurate meter (or any meter at all, for that matter). Since I don't shoot much color film these days, and since I'm sending it out to be developed, it took a while before the pile got large enough for it to be worthwhile to ship it out. I got them back last week.
My worst fears were realized. I like the results. I really like the results. I'm scared.

Yup, you should be very afraid! Nice pictures. We had a place in Maine until a couple of years ago, and I can vouch that it's hard to take an unattractive picture there.

You can't scale focus forever with the Rollei 35.
I guess that means an M6/M7/MP in your future?

Maine is indeed a very photogenic state; we try to get up there once or twice a year.
I have plenty of RF cameras - in fact, I more recently shot a roll of Ektachrome through my Canon L1, and it turned out just fine. It's bad enough I may be headed down the slide film rabbit hole; I certainly don't need to start buying more cameras on top of that.

My main concern was not about the focusing, but the metering. Slide film requires accurate exposure. I guess you could use a light metering app on your cell phone, or buy a hand-held light meter if you don't want to have built-in light metering in the camera.

Looks pretty rad! I'm moving to Maine in a month, and I plan on shooting a looooota Velvia in my Rolleiflex as well. 2.8E though!

I mostly just use my L-308. Works pretty well even with it's rudimentary reflected mode.

I've got a metering app for my phone that's good enough in most circumstances. I think I'll manage (at least until an irresistibly good deal on an M6 rolls around).

Beautiful photographs. I have an M6 but especially for slides I've preferred an incident hand-held meter for some time.

Lovely results.. you are Lost! Abandon hope, looks like there's no going back - think of what you can sell to pay for the Velvia habit

I have the good fortune of living an hour from the Maine coast. The state has some beautiful locations in the interior as well. You succeeded in capturing the mood very well.
I bought a couple of rolls of Velvia 100 a while back. Was surprised at the price. So I have been reluctant to shoot it unless I have a specific project in mind.
