I have an M3 case which is like the typical ever-ready case, but for the fact the top is fastened to the bottom with a non-detachable stud connnection.

I'm sure I've seen articles on Kiev sits, which discuss buying a press-stud, or something similar, to make the typical case into one with a detachable top - but now that I need it, I can't find the site. I'm sure there's one which discusses buying the relevant stud-thingy, from recollection from a particular camping-equipment shop. I'd like to try converting the M3 case to a detachable top.

Does this ring a bell, has anybody done this, or does anyone know the site/s pleeeaaase?

I don't recall a particular website, but the replacement of rivets with press-studs is a standard (equals pretty cheap) service by better shoe-cobblers or by most saddlers. Those places have the machinery and different sized fittings required to do a really good, strong job of the replacements. It also means that you don't have to buy twenty fittings in a pack, or make some sort of press-jig, so locally here it will even be cheaper to have it done professionally.

As soon as I'm back from holiday I will be getting the three rivets on my Zorki-1 case replaced by heavy "pop-on" fasteners, so that the top part of the case is removable when needed.

As Martin says, a cobbler's or a saddlery shop. I have removed the three rivets of my Zorki case, whose bottom is essential as the camera has no strap lugs. With my IIIc and M3, I simply did not use the cases.

I had it done for my Zorki 1 case by my local shoe-repair-man. It only cost me 5euro and he did a good job. I think you need at least some spetial tools (and skills) to do this job...

Hi Paul,
The site is Keith's Berry:

http://www.keithberry.telinco.co.uk/Kiev-4.htm

It works, and it was too the start of my parallel (the real) hobby of producing my own half cases. But don't worry, the site just speaks about the button you are asking about.

Cheers,
Ruben
