Hi all, I’m new in this forum, and I’m really enjoying this discussion, but if I may put my 2 cents in, I like to say that in the excitement of the launch of the M8 we are forgetting that a digital camera is only as good as it’s processor and lens combination. In this case the M8 has a great thing going for it, Leica lenses. The processor is another story, I believe that, with the current technology and Leica’s commitment to quality (not to mention price), the M8 processor is as good as any other SLRs out there, including the Canon 5D.
What I’m most interested in, is the reason why I shoot with the Leica M, witch is the rangefinder perspective, the speed, the unobtrusive quietness and durability, the way it feels in my hands and the way it connects with what I see.
To me a good image is a product of someone’s vision and a good photo can be taken with any camera really.
A digital Leica M, will only add to the ability of been able to see what you’re doing as your doing it. Witch to me is the only great thing about digital. An image is still an image, no matter if it is digital or film.
The more important question is, will this M model, perform as good as the other M’s, an extension of my eyes? (To quote CB)

We can be sure of one thing: there won't be any digital RF camera doing it better than the M8.

there are a couple of points here for me....

my fave Leica film camera was the M3, so I happen to like the viewfinder of the R-D1, which really is an 'extension of the eye', as it's got 1:1 magnification. That doesn't mean it's better, just different, as there are other issues with the Epson that make the M8 very attractive (as far as you can tell without using one ;) ).

The other thing is, digital sensors have been good enough to show the different characteristics of lenses for a few years now, so it's pretty certain that the M8 will be good enough to make the best of the Leica/Zeiss glass that's on offer. And that means *very* good.

There are still a lot of enthusiasts out there who don't want to get into digital, for a lot of reasons. However, unless you're talking large format, I can't see that image quality is one of them. I see lots of images posted by people who claim they wouldn't touch digital, and from the pictures, I have to say, I think they'd be a lot better off with it!

I agree, and I think that if Leica is to follow tradition, we won't see a M9 coming for a long time, so this processor will have to be one that is good enough to compete with the other brands inonvation for a long time.

At any rate Leica claims that the sensor was chosen for longvivety as well. I did not know there was any difference there, but the claim does emphasise that Leica expects these camera's to be in use for long periods of time.

Pricelist is here: http://www.novoflex.de/html_d/preise-deutsch.pdf?zoom=100

I also saw a pricelist for Novoflex adapters on an Australia site that actually had at least one adapter listed that I don't see on this list.

Novoflex are well known for keeping stuff in production for ages after the market has run out. Not only did they sell me a VISA adapter (Visoflex to Novoflex mount) which they most amazingly had in stock, they also brought a gentleman out of retirement to modify my last type Noflexar to the Visoflex specification. At a very reasonable price too.
