Mamiya 6 with 50mm lens by nickdemarco, on Flickr

My latest blog entry takes a break from my Leica IIIs and features what is probably my favourite medium format kit, the Mamiya 6, especially with the 50mm lens.

To read my review and view the most recent pics taken with this click on my blog here:

and a couple of the photos....

I've got the same kit as you, and yeah - my favourite camera. I'm soon to get the vented shade, I love that look.

By the way, you mention you have experience with both leicas and the mamiya. Technical aspects apart, how similar is it in terms of feel and your technique?

Good stuff (as usual!).

I owned a Mamiya 6 years ago but had to sell it due to an urgent need for money! I'm pleased that it went to a very good home though, and has subsequently seen a great deal of use.

They are really excellent cameras, and I never really could understand why Mamiya didn't stick with the 6, rather than bring out the 7. There's one listed for sale here (it's been 'reserved' for weeks now, so it's probably worth a call to see what the status is - or make an offer):

Thanks John - that's a pretty good price too
quejai - lovely pic. In answer to your question I guess I fond them very similar, so much so I have never really thought about it. Especially compared to the Leica M6 (my first and probably favourite M camera). The Mamiya is of course bigger, and the rangefinder is brighter and larger which is great, but generally similar in that you don't get distracted by buttons and knobs and focus on taking photos, and ergonmically its nice in the hand. Perhaps this is another reason I prefer the 6 to the 7 in fact
