New Mamiya 6 kit just arrived

I just received a very nice Mamiya 6 three lens kit on Friday. I have a couple of questions for those very familiar with the camera.

First, I had a Mamiya 7II kit and sold it a few years ago (for some reason long since forgotten) and had a Pano adaptor and Mamiya Polarizer left over. The polarizer will fit the 75mm and 50mm, but it seems to work different on the 6 than the 7ii.

I remember swinging the filter up and it would be reflected in the 7ii's meter reading. But with the 6, it does not make a difference in meter readings. Am I correct in assuming they metering location was moved between the two models (the 6 metering is affected by covering the large, clear outermost window), or is my memory just bad?

Secondly, everything works well with the camera - except the self timer. Has anyone had problems with the 6 timer not working? I think I am doing it correctly - I move the slide to the right (showing red) and then press the shutter. The camera just fires immedately, on any shutter speed setting.

I don't know about the polarizer, but the self-timer switch is prone to getting dirty, try sliding it back and forth several times to work out any gunk in the switch.

I'll exercise that timer switch, Chris, thanks! I am surprised because it just got back from PCW for a check up and minor fix before I received it. The seller is going to contact them for me. Do you know if the timer should work without film if the door is open? I know the shutter works that way.

You might have better luck with input on this issue in the [120/200 Film RF] group. You're in the [120 RF Film Folders] group, which includes the fixed-lens Mamiya-Six folder (circa 1950's), not the modern interchangable-lens Mamiya 6 (circa 1990s). Just sayin'.

Ha! I didn't realize that! I guess I'll do try that.

As an update - by moving the switch back and forth, I found that the timer works intermttently. So it still needs to go back for repair. Also, I concluded that while the M7 polarizer fits and is usable, they moved the metering cell on the 7, and you can't conveniently meter through it on the 6. So I'll use a handheld meter in those cases....
