Mamiya 6 Darkslide problem.

So, I just got a used Mamiya 6 + 75mm f/3.5 lens today and I've been having a bit of a problem with the dark slide and removing the lens.

It doesn't seem to stick closed, I used the spring loaded dark slide knob on the bottom but it won't stay closed, it just snaps back open.

These means the lens is locked in unless I physically hold the knob to keep the dark slide closed.

Has anyone run up into this before?
I suppose there could be something with the interlock mech in there...

Any help would be appreciated.

I have no experience with the 6, but I do know with the 7 that you feel the tension as you go to lock it and then it locks in place. It seems like maybe the part that locks it in place (inside the mechanism) has broken off. That will probably be an expensive repair to fix.

I'm going to run some film though it tomorrow and see what else is up.

make sure the lens is fully extended and "locked" into position before you try the "locking of the darkslide" this may be some indication if the problem is based on the latch or otherwise.

I'd collapse then extend the lens a couple of times just to see if there's something that might be 'stuck' and the extend/retract movement may help 'break a deadlock'. Hopefully it's just something like that.

The Mamiya 6 RF is a fine camera and that 75 is an outstanding performer. I'm sure you've read the reports and that's what motivated you. If it's required I'd get the work done, but I'd ask around for people who are experienced with this camera. I know there's someone in Chicago, however I don't know if there's other repair shops closer by and equally competitive on repair costs. Doing some homework there will pay dividends if you have to go that route.

Also make sure the camera is wound, I think there's an interlock for that in there someplace but not sure, I just know that the shutter/winder must be wound for some things to work. Bob.

Yes that's a "necessary" step in the procedure. I do it so automatically with mine that I forgot I even do it...
