Can the magnet be removed without affecting camera operation? As it is now, I do a fair amount of shooting in cold weather (40F or 5C), and the film advance won't work at this temp.

The issue I'm referring to is mentioned in the following links:
What Ravi is referring to in this thread: http://photo.net/medium-format-photography-forum/003ieU

And what Martin is referring to in this thread (though his release button fix won't work at 5C, either): http://photo.net/medium-format-photography-forum/008QDh

I think (not sure) that it causes the camera to be wound on again and again without taking a shot, thus wasting film. I remember reading a post about this once. The person said he was disciplined enough to not wind on extra times, but I doubt that it would work for me because I often attempt to wind on without thinking in case I didn't wind on after the previous shot (but I always have wound on).

Thanks John. If I'm grasping this correctly, then it seems like the magnet assembly is just to ensure that there are no unexposed frames. But if one is diligent enough with procedure, then all is well. I can't say that I'm the most diligent photographer around, but if it means that I can at least use the camera in cold weather (which I'm unable to at present), then I think I'll try and find a camera repair shop which will do the extraction.
