Hi Y'all,
Two things happened this weekend that I'm no super happy about regarding my Mamiya 6 and I'm hoping to get some input here before I ship her off for repair.
The first, and most pressing, is that the lens mount won't stay 'clicked' in the collapsed position. I push the black button to collapse the mount, it collapses, but I can simply grab the lens and pull the mount back out.
The second is a sticky shutter speed selector and power switch. I fear someone spilled beer on the top of the camera while I was at a soccer match.
Is this something I can tackle myself, or do I need to just get it shipped off? Any thoughts on what I'm looking at in repair costs?
Thank you!

Are you in the US? If so ship it to Bob at precision camera works in Chicago. He does great work. Sounds like your camera needs a CLA. It will run you about $300 for a full CLA but is well worth it.

Sounds like things that may be easy to repair. Be glad it's not a film transport problem. I would never open up a Maimya 6 myself....

Sold mine because I always felt it could break at anytime. I wouldn't try fixing it myself.

This is what I feared. I called Bob and it's going to be more like $400 + s/h both ways to get a CLA.
I might try somewhere locally in Portland first and see if they can handle it before I fork that kind of money over. $400 for repairs is STEEP.

Mark Hansen is in Portland, I'm not he works on the Mamiya:

I've been really happy with his work on my Contax IIa and I'll be sending him a Rolleiflex soon.
Good luck

Thanks!
Yeah, Mark does GREAT work on Contaxes and Rolleis, but I'm not sure he's even interested in work on a more modern camera like the Mamiya. Advanced camera in Beaverton tells me they can do the work, and they back up their work with a decent warranty, so I may try them before sending it to Precision.

Just as an FYI, I took my camera to Advanced Camera in Portland and they cleaned out the top so that the switch and shutter selector work as new! Camera is working like a charm again and they saved me about $450
Definitely recommend the folks at Advanced.
