I said to myself that if I were to shoot film again, it would be medium format. A couple of weeks ago, I managed to gather funds for a M6, 75 & 50... bought a box full of expired film & some portra and had enough left over for a V600 flatbed.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the M6 - love the handling, the viewfinder and that collapsable mount (flattens it just enough to fit in my diaper bag).

I'm not enjoying the scanning 😱

I love my Mamiya 6 and the images it produces.

I've also purchased expired 120 film for it and have had great results.

The only thing I haven't liked about it is that I can't seem to trust its meter readings. I've taken to using my external meter whenever I use this camera. When I use the external meter, my film images are perfectly exposed.

Enjoy your new acquisition!

nice to see another RFF Calgarian and great Stampede shots with the Mamiya 6, one of my dream cameras.

I shoot with a Pentax 6x7 and do my own scanning with a V600 and the included Epson software and overall happy with the results.

if you are interested on some 120 films (HP5+, Delta, TMAX, Provia 100 and Velvia 50/100) let me know as I'm looking to retire from MF

Ellen - my experience confirms everything I've read about the meter being easily influenced by something bright over head. I'm trying to make it a practice to point down and lock the meter at that reading.... tell you one thing I missed: the wide margin of error you have with negs.

taemo - taemo rin 😉 Thanks for the 120 offer, but I'm afraid I've exhausted my film budget for the time being (love b&h). I might have questions about your scanning workflow however... quite the learning curve.

I have been using the Canon 24-70 MKII on my 5DMIII a bit lately, which is an extraordinary lens, but my Mamiya 6 and the Mamiya 50mm is still the best camera and lens setup in my collection.

The meter is terrible with even minimal backlight. So if the sun isn't coming from over my shoulder, I meter off the ground or where-ever the tones seem similar and use the AEL setting to carry this over to the desired view. Sometimes I use the "sunny f16" rule instead of any meter reading. That this is the Achilles heel of the camera took many underexposed shots for me to learn.
