Mamiya/Polaroid 600e

I do not possess a polaroid back for the above. And i figure they will soon become defunct. As i understand it those for the 600e fit a g back. I have an interest in alternative photography and was wondering if those backs which fit the 600e might be used to take a plate or tintype. The older pack film holders would work but its the more up to date holders i'm curious about.

A back for what? Or rather, what camera do you possess - a Polaroid 600E or some Mamiya Press?

If you have a 600E, your best option might be to hold out until someone makes film again - there is some in the pipe. It will NOT take Mamiya Universal film backs, and hacking the camera to accept Universal parts will make a graceful return to Polaroid difficult.

As the Polaroid backs have a dark slide, it is trivial to darkroom load a single sheet of quarter plate film (or dry plate) - and if you do not mind messing up the camera, you could also do so with wet plate. Changing film on site without lots of time and a dark bag (tent or box, for wet plate) would be another matter...

Thanks. simply wanted to check with someone who had the polaroid backs for either the universal or 600 that it would be possible to put a plate or tintype in it. I have two mamiya 23s and lenses bur was thinking of getting a universal body to try this project. Am i right in thinking there is no polaroid back for the super23 M?

Not that I am aware of. Even if somebody made one (similar to Polaroid holders mated to 6x9 Graflok adapters) it would not be in the focus plane of the camera and rangefinder, so it would be useless for general photography.

For the same reason, I do think you could do much better than use a Mamiya for wet plate. Compensating for a self made (or modified) plate holder on a Mamiya Universal might require serious metal work to the lens and/or frame. On a camera with bellows/cam focusing and a wooden frame, like a Speed or Crown Graphic, you could simply readjust - and these even are more affordable.

The film holder (aka "back") for the Polaroid 600E is the same as the Polaroid film holder for the Mamyia Universal except for some slight difference in the attachment lugs. They are both the same plastic shell and roller assembly so the modifications necessary to make them light tight and to create a film gate on the right position are the same.

Has anyone used a mamiya universal with a 127mm lense without the 127mm mask? I recently acquired one and im curious about the framing. I read somewhere that people use the 150mm framing and adjust instead of buying the separate mask. anyone with experience in this let me know! excited to get shooting.
