Hey fellow RFF'ers. I ordered a Mamiya RZ67 from Japan and when it came in the mail today... I couldn't contain my excitement. Well.. there's an issue with the rubber grip! It keeps rubbing of into a weird greasy thing into my hand!

Is there anything I can do? I have looked into removing the grip and it's gonna be a mission... I'd rather try something... topical 🙂.

What's the guy you bought it from's returns policy like?
Ask him about it and see if he can help or even explain it...

If you don't think it's adhesive coming from underneath it, I would guess (and I emphasize guess) it's probably either a result of extreme temperatures or contact with chemicals.

Unless someone else on here has any ideas, I'd be sending it back.

I have been looking for a RZ for a while. I have noticed that some of the ads talk about sticky rubber.
For what I can tell it is fairly common, although I haven't seen any remedies or replacement grips or leatherette for it.
Good luck, please post if you find a solution.

Seems fairly common. The grip stuff reminds me of the 'soft touch' coating used on the interior plastics of 2000s VWs and Audis (among others, I'm sure)–it feels nice when new, but eventually starts turning into this sticky goopy crap that rubs off.

Had the same occur to my RZ Pro II. I acquired replacement rubbers through MAC, and changed them out myself, which was fairly easy to do. Don't remember the cost, but it wasn't extraordinary.

Awesome advice! I will look into ordering them from MAC. Amazed they still make the RZ ProiiD..
