Mamiya Sekor 105 lens

I have acquired a Mamiya C220 which came with an interchangeable 105mm lens. The 80mm looks good but I am wondering about the iris and focussing ring on the viewing lens.Is it to check depth of field or something else? Am looking forward to getting back to 6x6 format after years away .Thanks in advance if anyone has any info on this lovely piece.

What ring on the viewing lens? There's nothing on mine, nothing that move anyway. The 105 is just like the 80, put on and shoot. Can you post a picture?

Sounds like you have the 105mm DS lens, which has an adjustable aperture on the viewing lens for checking depth of field. I have this lens, and I got it because it's a Heliar design, which is a very nice look IMHO.

The only gotcha is that the viewing lens aperture affects metering if you use a metered prism/chimney finder.

The 105DS lens has an added feature that wasnt on any of the other Mamiya TLR lenses. It was a depth of field preview on the viewing lens... although it isn't greatly useful, it is definitely a neat idea/benefit for well lit scenes where it might be useable.

Interesting! Didn't know there was a DS lens, wintoid would you happen to know what is the optical design of the normal 105 is?

although i dont know much about the optical design of the original 105 (silver) but it wasn't the heliar design like the D and DS

As above, no idea about the normal 105mm. I specifically sought out the DS for the Heliar look.

Thanks for the info, chaps. The lens is indeed a Mamiya-Sekor DS number 40025 f 3.5/105. It is in mint condition and I look forward to using it. The view through the viewing screen looks very clear and contrasty. One draw-back, the weight! Probably not the machine to take on holidays 😱

After selling off my beloved Mamiya C330f kit with lenses last month, there is one rickety C330 body left, with a 105/3.5 DS lens on it.

Unfortunately it has separation in both rear elements... And the body skips frames, so it's basically useless as-is. And I had not even come round to shooting the 105 DS... grmpf.

Sad news...found Pacificrim camera.com who have a MS 105 DS for sale and it is described as having a depth-of-field previewing viewing lens, also, it is apparently the only Mamiya Sekor with delayed action, if anyone uses that facility. You discover something new every day...
