Mamiya Super Deluxe

Anyone shot any film with one?

Sure have, but the f1.7 model, going back into the 1970s. Several examples, old and new, in my gallery.

Overall, it's a solid performer. The lens (I can only speak for the 1.7 model) is right up there with the best of that vintage. It shows less astigmatism when wide open than the similar lens on the Canon QL17 GIII.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that I think that us$199 is obscenely high, in particular when they say that the SHUTTER DOES NOT WORK! (It has a Copal shutter very similar to the GIII.) The f1.7 model seems to go for us$30-$70 or so in decent shape. They are not terribly common on That Auction Site, but they do show up semi-regularly.

Here's the Camerapedia page on this model:

Hope this helps. :)

>I THINK IT IS OILY NEEDS TO BE CLEANED

I think while it's more rare than rest of crowd of era, it's only FLRF with f1.7 lens.
So let's dream on for $199 deal.

Holy cr@p -- $199 for a simple rangefinder camera with a f%^#ed up shutter and an engraved back

Well, at least it comes with a lens cap

I had one of these. It needed to be serviced. I never used it and sold it.

My take on the camera is that it had a nice lens, but physically was excessively large. That's almost my take on other models from that era -- they are much larger than they need to be.

I have one. It's nice, but I don't use it much. Shutter was stuck when I got it, had to do the lighter-fluid trick on it. It's very rectangular - sharp edges in a way. Reminds me of my Lynx 14, but I prefer the Lynx. I like the photos it makes, but close in and wide open, the bokeh is very swirley for some reason.

I have one of these. Found it at a junk shop for 10$. I don't use it all the time but I like it. I have some pics posted here from it, one showes the swirly bokeh.

For $200 it better be the f1.5 model and have been CLA'd. This is one of those cameras I always wanted to hold in my hand but not necessarily own...

I LOVE swirly bokeh though!

OMG! I'm in the wrong business!

And I thought $200-ish a while back was sky high for one of these!

FREE camera, get it now! (well almost free, that is...)

FREE camera, get it now! (well almost free, that is...)

I have one with the 1.7 lens. It was for sale on the evilbay but it never went, although I had stuck a decent price on it, since it had the same shutter issue.

This is actually very easy to repair/clean, since the whole front lens assembly unscrews as a whole. I have done it (once again) since the camera did not sell. And got it to go again.

So far for the good news. The bad news: I broke the screw of the retaining cap for the transport lever. It is stuck in the thread and will not come out, there is not enough protruding metal to get a hold of. You need to push the transport lever down with your finger while transporting to get to the next frame. Not quite as it was intended by the designers, lets say...

So, anyone that wants to use it for spares (has the 1.7 lens!) or wanting to have a go at transporting it in a very clumsy way, PM me and you'll only pay shipping fees to receive it.

In its favor I can say it has a meter readout on top and in the viewfinder, and has a nice and contrasty purple rangefinder spot. And it has recently been CLA'd
