I'm sure this isn't the first time this has happened and no doubt it won't be the last. LINK

"Also we need to warn our children of the dangers of online conversations as it can result in meetings like this."

I think that last paragraph from the report sums it up. Teach your child to be sensible and s/he will stay out of trouble. Fill their heads with nonsense, or worse still, just leave it to others, and you will put them at risk.

The trouble is that so many young girls have starlet aspirations these days that they become easy prey IMO.

And not necessarilly their faults!

Ok ... this thread has been instantly moved to off topic which is all very well but there 'is' relevance to photography here IMO.

An explanation would be nice!

So we can educate our daughters on types of photographers - avoid those with long zooms, but also be aware of those with tiny pancakes, which can be as nasty as others. And best part is most of us have all kinds of gear to show how exactly it looks like.

Sure, most important is to strenghten self esteem of kids and don't make them searching for support and understanding too far from home and relatives too early. This is when strangers get a chance.

... or we could stick our heads in the sand, refuse to discus it, and remain in collective denial of such things by hiding it away off in some corner :)

Unfortunately, statistically most abuse is precisely at the hands of relatives or close acquaintances, not strangers.

That is only boosting xenophobia and prejudice when you simplify the world too much and try to project it on to specific things. The fact is that most people don't want to harm you, even less so complete strangers. Teach the kids to think instead of spreading prejudice and they have a much better chance in life.

True words and people wants to be in denial of this fact since people generally don't want to be a part of the problem so they blame it on others. Xenophobia and such only makes people blind to the real dangers that often are way closer than they want to think.
