1. I have a 74 Kiev 4, ser no 7411666 Shutter is fine, film advance is fairly smooth the lens and rangefinder are in good condition. It has a home made take up spool and the frame spacing is fine all the way through a 36 exposure roll. The problem is, I have no idea when I have come to the end of a roll. When I hit the end of a roll the camera will let me keep winding and shooting, No resistance, no ripping the sproket holes... nothing.

It is not a real big problem, the film counter works, it's just annoying. Any Idea's or suggestions?

2. Some one in the past cut out the meter escapement. No needle. I put a meter on the selenium cell and I am getting current. Looks like the cell is good. No idea what that was all about. Anyone have a junker Kiev with a meter escapement they want to sell?

The drawback of not feeling when the roll ends is that you often ruin last few shots, being certain that the you've still got some film.

The friction can be adjusted to the fine point of getting resistance at the end of the roll while still maintaining reasonably accurate frame spacing. I think Oleg sells a tool serving just that purpose.

hmmm...i did not know about this issue at all. I had to take the fork screw off for the repair and i tightenet quite well, and the frame spacing IS uneven a bit but no overlaps so i did not care. Thanks guys.

Thanks for the input. I'll keep checking around for possible solutions and post something if I get it working to my satisfaction.
