Probably...but now you've got to be extra careful about any enlarger shake...the higher the enlarger head goes up the more unstable it will get...
There are plenty of decent 50mm lenses out there...

As it turns out, the answer is No. At least not on this Meopta Opemus III. Very easy to rotate the column and project to a lower station, tho. I am going to try and fit/adapt my 50/2.8 Schneider Kreuznach to it.

My Componon-S is 39mm ltm. It is too large for this Meopta lens holder (23mm hole). I need to adapt a lens holder/board some way.

23,5mm is the old Meopta lens adapter. The latest are also M39x1mm like all later Meopta enlarger lenses. You have also Meopta adapters M39 with the 23,5mm insert which can be removed.
