I only watched a few mins but I liked it. Many of my friends are english speaking asians and a lot like them two: full of life, easy going and a bit obsessed about nice things (arent we all)
Felt at home watching it, just a fun day in the city... would love to be there

i have to admit that other videos by DigitalRev that i've watched have annoyed me more than this particular video, but i guess what annoyed me about this video was the way they approached & got in the faces of the people they were photographing. yes, it was all in good fun and the people involved seemed to handle it well (if someone didn't they obviously wouldn't have included that in the video), but had it been my face that they had suddenly stuck their cameras in front of or if it had been my daughter whom they suddenly started taking photos of, i wouldn't have been happy about it at all.
but i guess that's just me.

I don't think a lot of people agree with their approach. But for the purpose of this video, when people see a video crew behind two guys, I think they wouldn't mind so much.

One would have to be pretty broken to find that upsetting.
No big deal at all to me. I wasn't offended. They have the balls to approach people more than I do.

who is eric and who is kai? one was speaking american english, and the other what you guys said is hong kong english. in any case, i thought it was a fun video with a charming cast. and hong kong seems like fun place with interesting people.
my favorite feature: those leather straps the guys were using. they look well made, supple, bullet-proof - and expensive.

good point. the presence of the camera crew probably did help to defuse the situation had anyone taken offense to their approach.

No offense! I really like the DigitalRev regular host guy. He's smart. Eric is a bit embarrassing and the look on his companion's face and his occasional retreats from Eric's bolder interactions with his public indicate he found him embarrassing too.

This video rubs me the wrong way as Im sure it might for you.
Not at all... it was a fun video
With Eric. what you see is what you get. Nice guy and he has the ability to pull together interesting workshops as well.

I enjoyed that immensely. I took one of eric's street photography workshops in chicago, he was genuinely interested in the M3 I used and even bought a 21mm f/4 VC based on my recommendation. you couldn't ask for a better advertisement for film.

Video was a hoot and fun to watch.
Makes me feel silly about how tentative I am when shooting on the street.

I take it that Bruce Gilden isn't quite popular around here either, is that a correct assumption?
I find it quite uplifting to see Eric work. I have attempted to emulate his approach, talking to some people and so on, I feel that most people are quite amused or pleased that somebody would be interested in taking a photograph of them. If I can leave them feeling better as I take my photograph, then why not?

I thought it was great - not upsetting at all - 2 guys having fun and taking street photos - charming

I enjoyed it. They were pleasant, polite, funny, and entertaining. Nothing to get upset about!

I'm not a fan of digitalrev. Maybe it's his annoying fake British accent or something. Before you guys start bashing, I'm half Chinese. Just setting my people back![]()
Kai's accent isn't fake, it's a Southern English accent (there isn't a "British accent", we are a union of four nations and have countless regional accents). Kai's humour is very British though. I enjoyed the video.

what percentage of hong kong residents speak english nowadays?

I enjoyed the video, but I am not a fan of staged street photography. IMHO, if it is staged, it's not street. But that's just me. Is this his style when he's not got a video crew following around?

What is really amusing is reading this thread without watching the video!

Remember that Hong Kong was a British Crown colony before the lease ran out and it was returned to China, English was the language of administration etc so many people will have spoken English as a second language. I would guess that Kai grew up in the UK and like many Brits of all ethnicities, has settled in Hong Kong, after all it is a thriving commercial region.
