President McKinley was shot by an anarchist 105 years ago today in Buffalo New York.
Has anyone ever seen any period photos of the site after the assasination?
How come we only have terrorists now, no anarchists seem to exist.

Per your last question, I really won't go into the details, as it would be in bad taste. But nut cases have always been around.
To think that people of his own party were terrified of T. Roosevelt being next in line should anything happen to McKinley.

I believe HCB was the last anarchist
As for shooting, best to shoot with a camera than a gun, sadly that's out of fashion too.

Yup, Old TR was one of the best presidents the USA ever had. He had the guts to go after the big corporations (they called them something else back then) and he was an original environmentalist.

Funny, he's the least remembered....why is that? Strange it happened in Buffalo, hardly a political hotbed......never seen any photos of it either. Anybody have a good link?

I read recently that John Muir was the prime motivator of TR becoming and "environmentalist". I haven't read any TR bios, or any of McKinley, for that matter, but it's sort of a fascinating period. Hmm, some reading ahead.

The only thing I know about him was that his origianl name was Denali, but it got changed when his mother got divorced. He was our first Italian President, but is not widely recognized as such because of the name change.

I'd suggest The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris. Excellent book. Won the Pulitzer the year it was released.

Anarchy is about goals, terrorism is about methods, so that particular assasin qualifies as terrorist as well.

I'll second that. It was a great read about a fascinating man.

Sarah Vowell's book "Assassination Vacation" has an interesting (and at times amusing) background to McKinley's term as president and details the McKinley assasination (and the anarchist who killed him). Definitely worth a read!
