I see this guy every day and on a few occasions I bought him a burger as he hangs out by the McDonalds. Today I saw him and asked if I could take some shots of him as we talked. He told me story after story, and after about 45 minutes and a roll of film I headed home to process and print.

Meet Stanley

Nice interaction with someone so many people could walk by without seeing. I'm sure both of you took something from the interaction. I'd bet you came away with a new appreciation for all you have. I'm glad you took the time to share with us.

Agreed, well seen, in more than one way.

I see this guy every day and on a few occasions I bought him a burger as he hangs out by the McDonalds. Today I saw him and asked if I could take some shots of him as we talked.

Just out of college, my first spring working in Hartford we enjoyed walking around the city at lunch time, all in suits, 24ish years old, masters of our world. There were quite a few homeless folks hanging round too. One of the best lessons I learned in life came from one of these gentlemen. He approached me and asked for some change, cash, whatever. Instead of just walking by, I stopped, reached in my pocket, and actually found that it was empty. I looked up, and said something like "Sorry Sir, I really don't have anything for you right now." The look in his face changed and he said "Thank you, yes you do, nobody has called me Sir in as long as I can remember." We both smiled and went on our ways.

I am sure Stanley enjoys the occational burger, or a few bucks, but I bet that 45 minutes was priceless to him.

Pretty much every time I head into Toronto, I hand out some change or buy a sausage for a street person. I'm proud of my 10 year old son, who when he is with me, tells me to. It's not going to solve any of their problems, but it's better than just walking by. And it is the human interaction that is at least as important as the donation.

Are you saying profund people must always be negleted? I think you are showing your age. I thought Muhammad Ali was profound. Hardly negleted. I am profound but then I am very negleted.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks to all! Magus, yea, I am really liking the MP. Only took a day to shoot with it. While there is not that much difference between the MP and M7, there is just something about the MP!

Anyway, thank you all for the comments. Yes, he was very thrilled just to have someone to talk to and i learned quite a bit about him and how he got to where he is. I am doing a whole series on some of these guys and will be shooting all month.

A few more below:
