Ha! Smart man you. I never bought roses because baking and serving a loaf of bread was almost 100%. It should be Photography because most women can't resist (stereotypical) bad boys, and money is easy to find from other, merely hopeful, professions.

Its not listed but cooking is one that I know is a slam dunk winner(come on girls lets here your insight)- but of the listed options: my head says photographer otherwise why would you mention it on RFF and my heart says instrument…..

A couple of important ones are missing from the list: Plumbing and general construction work (for example hardwood floors, rewiring lamps and switches, removing walls, etc.).

As I mentioned in the OP I left out the practical "handyman around house " as poll option, as it was NOT mentioned as attractive hobby. I am reasonably handy, I guess. About a year ago I jump wired an extension cord from a generator outside the garage to our heating during the Sandy aftermath😉.

It was my guitar and singing that got me into what has been a 35 year marital journey, but my teach-baseball/football/basketball skills and soccer-dad carpooling counted for more subsequently, as have my cooking, gardening, and minor fixits.

At this moment, my partner is going through chemo for ovarian cancer, so the willingness to do whatever whenever, though not pollable perhaps, is most important, and to have a laugh and watch another episode of Foyle's War in the evening. Somehow cancer has not given her an appreciation of Premier League football, but that's all taped for another time.

So having a cabinetful of cameras that tend to spill onto tables and sideboards is tolerable, though I know she'd prefer to hear the guitar again. As for hobbies that women like (us guys), I can honestly say that too many hobbies is a risk. I think my wife would love it if I gave up the saltwater aquaria, or the woodworking, or the photography, or the.....

This thread has really just been a collection of (mostly American) gender stereotypes. I don't even mean this in a judgemental way but it's funny to observe that most of what is considered typical male or female behaviour in American culture (as shown in movies and tv but also in this thread) is very specific to America. That's not to say that there are less stereotypes in other parts of the world but they're different.

That being said, I actually don't think there's any kind of hobby that is inherently attractive. Talents are attractive, shared interests are attractive, lifestyles that are associated with certain hobbies might be attractive, being passionate about something might be attractive but hobbies themselves? I don't think so. If anything, I would say that it's usually the person that makes the hobby seem attractive and not the other way around.
