posting the MIQ "Most impossible question" to listeners :
"According to women, the most attractive hobby for men is ... ?"
I have left out the usual handyman work like plumbing, working on cars etc but one guy, maybe caller #10 had the correct answer.
Let's see if our internal RFF poll is in line with the official statistics 😉.

Over my life I've played instruments, sung, sailed, ridden a motorbike and photographed. Of those photography was the most acceptable option, from a very small sample size. It's the camera collecting that's not as acceptable ;-)

I'd guess horseback riding. Sailing is cool, but many people get seasick. Musical instrument is good too, but many people will be sick of hearing the 'I'm in a band' schtick.

I thoroughly doubt it's photography.

I voted Woodworking,
It shows a high degree of skill sets, 3d thinking, Planning, Finishing a project in a timely manor. and he can FIX things in the house when She asks him, and do it right-the-first-time

Although I have no idea what the radio survey concluded.

My guess is that it would not be golf as there are too many golf widows. It would not be motorbike riding as that is perceived as a male bonding activity. It would not be singing as that is, well, weird. And most men can't sing. It would not be woodworking as that is usually something associated with older craftsmen.

That leaves playing an instrument, sailing, horseback riding and photography.

Playing an instrument has appeal as there are certain pleasurable connotations. I think Redisburning is quite on the money about sailing - and it has romantic associations; champagne on the afterdeck, anyone? Horseback riding, like playing an instrument, has pleasurable connotations, as well as the control of power.

But I'll go with photography. What woman doesn't want to have her beauty appreciated?

Not a hobby, but washing dishes has always been the one that got me the furthest with women.

Ha! Smart man you. I never bought roses because baking and serving a loaf of bread was almost 100%. It should be Photography because most women can't resist (stereotypical) bad boys, and money is easy to find from other, merely hopeful, professions.

Edit: (Actually checks the poll.) Yes, musicians, the archetypal bad boys. I was thinking "Blow Up", but then I'm so old I've forgotten how to be a bad boy...

I am biologist, so better don't read further.

Partners are chosen for the chance that you sucessfully raise offspring.
When young, women choose partners promising to be able to acquire status (intelligence, interest, ability,...). Hobbies may help to indicate that.
Later, women choose partners that have acquired status (i.e.$$ in our days). Hobbies just distract from the family, so better have none (dish washing has been suggested, very clever).

I am unfortunately in the older group, cannot get any benefit for hobbies.

Now, before someone points his fingers at women, men just choose young women.

😀
