so, as is my habit when i notice a new member's name on the roster, i went to his profile to see what i could see.
after a quick look and an even quicker look at his website, i went to my user cp and lo & behold there is a p.m. from this same newbie.

very twilight zone...

as it turns out he lives in a neighboring city and is in town for some holiday visiting and he noticed that i live in edmonton and thought he'd say hi.

long story short - we meet for a coffee & camera fondle.

what a nice guy! his name is russ pinchbeck and he is into kiev cams in a big way. good for me as i got to play with a couple he had with him, along with a fabulous zorki 1.
i love that zorki, it was so small & solid, a great carry camera.

russ has opened his cameras up and done some work on them too. his website shows it all. very impressive.

as luck would have it, i just happened to have my canon's, p & 7 with me.
russ seemed impressed with the finders and i'm sure i heard him mutter something about having to check out some canons on ebay.
anyway, it was a great visit with a really nice guy.

Joe, I'm familiar with Russ' posts on the Russian Camera board and I'm confident that he'll be a great asset to this board as well. Russ has helped so many people on the RC board who have had questions about their cameras. If he's as nice in person as he seems to be by his posts, he's a great guy.

I have enjoyed the get togethers we have had here in New England. Huck Finn and I actually live about 15 miles apart and I am sure we will be meeting for coffee soon.
 
Oh, I thought everybody was familiar with the Beststuff Russiancameraforum, where all the great names in the Russian Camera scene (JC Blazik, Nathan Dayton, Comrade Stoisha, etc.) hang out...
Check out the 'Text resources' part, with lots of repair info, and the gallery; the forum itself is not so active as it used to be, though (because of the holidays?)

You can even meet Oleg, Anya or Matt Denton there, is indeed a great place even though I don't visit it that often, but I don't have that much time :(

Btw I remember that Kiev survival site from Russ, it was referenced in photo.net some days ago. Great addition to the RFF community, and will help you catch the Kiev bug :D

Just be sure to let him know how wonderful Canon RFs are ;)

I most certainly had the pleasure of meeting with joe (I hear he prefers lowercase) the other day. I've known about this list for a couple months but have only checked back a couple times since.

I see this is a most active list. I generally keep a low profile except where someone needs some info regarding Kiev's. I do have the Kiev Survival Site which caters to information for those who are brave enough to dive in and have a go at it. I started sharing information as I picked it up while poking around my Kiev's. I by no means consider myself an expert but I am willing to share what I know.

This is just a test location until I find a proper home. I plan on filling it out with more procedural documents that will allow you to fix up your own Kiev. With the semi-retirement of Oleg, copies of Maizenberg's book getting scarce and few other places one can turn to for Kiev repairs I hope to have enough information in the public domain for the most common Adjustment and Repairs.

If there are any procedures you want just drop me a line and I'll queue it up to include it on the site sometime.

Welcome, Russ! I passed through your town heading east many years ago, riding a Honda 750 on the scenic route to Minot and Rapid City. Looks kinda like around here, but moreso. :)

And I had my Olympus 35RC with me too! I didn't have a Kiev then, but last year I got a 4a from Fedka.com, interesting to use. Then I got a J12 and a second 4a that needs work... I guess I'm in trouble now!

Nice looking website; I've bookmarked it... but clicking the "Other Stuff" link gave me a 404 error.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I've yet to define the "Other Stuff" area. I was going to have it show some "Under Construction" graphics or something smart but I haven't had time to finalize it.

For the most part it will link to other non-camera related stuff. ie. Model Railroading and Railway History.

If you pass through Calgary again, look me up. I'm game for coffee.

Yes this is the book I'm talking about but this is the original Russian version. An English version is available but it is getting scarse. I got mine from Ed Romney's site. http://www.edromney.com/products.html
