i just discovered that fuji is making a second hood for the new 35/2 lens...it looks like a standard leica type vented hood with, i assume, is the fuji bayonet mount for the front of the lens.

does anyone have one yet...if so, what do you think of it?

It clips on as opposed to screws on. Other than that it's 8-10 times the price for the same hood that's available just about anywhere.

have you seen one in person?
the local shops don't normally carry these type accessories but will order them.
i got the hood for the fuji 16, came in about a week.

How much of a difference would this hood make compared to the one supplied with the lens? I'm awaiting mine from my supplier.

Have not seen one. No doubt finish is better than generic, hopefully thinner metal. Might be reversible for packing. Clip-on needs to be secure.

I still haven't come to closure on the lens. 35/1.4 much quicker on my XT1 than XE2. But I prefer the ergos of the XE2. If the latter prevails, I'll get the 35/2 and you can tell me about the hood.

the new 35 on the xe2 is lightening quick afa af speed is concerned.
the included hood seems fine…much like the small shades supplied with the small cv lenses and they work fine.
i'm not as convinced i want this hood as much as the hood for the 16...

Joe, I have the new Fuji vented hood. I think its called "LH-35/2" or something like that. I like a LOT more than the little hood that comes with the lens. This is just an aesthetic thing on my part. I'm sure the original hood does a fine job of shading the lens, but I like the newer hood's look on the lens. Quite nice looking. Here's a picture of it on my X-Pro1:

That looks really nice, Jamie. I've been thinking about getting one for my silver copy. The included one (black) looked odd, but this one could look nice and classic on silver lens.

I think this type of hood design looks good especially on the design of XF 35/2 which tapers down towards the front like classic RF lenses.

OK enough about the looks (but hey we like good looking things). Jamie would you say the cutouts can be positioned well so that OVF would benefit from the opening? I couldn't tell from available product photos.

Sug, the cutouts aren't even necessary as the hood only covers a very tiny bit of the lower right corner of the X-Pro1's OVF... not noticeable at all.

What body, compared to the 1.4, in low light? My emphasis is low light when the cameras switch to CDAF. The xt1 seems to stick with PDAF far longer than the e2. As I enjoy photography during evening hours, the 35/1.4 can be unpredictable on the e2 if shooting with AF.

Right now I'm in the throws of emptying my drawers of all non-essential gear. 2 bodies and 3 lenses last week. I'm also finally dealing with the ergonomics of the xt1 which I've never jelled with. That's the reason for a new xe2. But I'm still not at the point of deciding to sell the xt1. I should just go buy one and see as that focal is the deciding factor.

Here's what I used for the 16. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/251353...7290-0%26rvr_id%3D965135859051&chn=ps&lpid=82 I'm cheap when it comes to hoods. Finish is actually quite nice.

i used a $7 hood on the 16 till i got the fuji hood, it worked but looked funny to me.
i use the xe2 with the new 35...playing around in my darkened living room it is very fast...it can go from the bright tv to a chair leg in the far corner of the room without problem.

thanks for the pic!
very handsome rig!

That's a nice looking rig, Jamie. If I may digress, on the X-Pro are you seeing a significant focus speed improvement over the 1.4.

I suppose the only difference would be the vents would restore a small fraction of the frame when using the lens on the X-Pro 1 and soon to be released X-Pro 2.

Well the 35/1.4 is much faster on the X-T1 compared to the other bodies. However the 35/2 is faster still and it is much quieter. There seems to be less hunting but maybe the hunting is just quicker and quieter. The manual focus-by-wire experience is improved as well. The feel of the 35/2's virtual aperture ring is superior to the 35/1.4's.

Beside the obvious one stop maximum aperture, the other differences between these lenses involves their physical size and high degree of barrel distortion correction with the 35/2 during in-camera or ex-camera rendering.

I sold the 35/1.4 and bought the 35/2 because of the significant improvement in AF technology and because of its lower footprint. I minor benefit is AF usage with the X100T and the X-T1 - 35/2 combo are very similar. This make switching between the two cameras easier.
