Well, I took the gamble and ordered a metal print from FineArtAmerica. I uploaded an 11X14" image that is abstract and does not rely on resolution to make it's point.
Their aluminum is 1/16" thick (pretty stiff), and has a white base coat under the printed image. Slight color shift toward magenta, compared to the paper print that I ordered along with the metal print.
It looks very nice. I packed it away so I can't show you an image right now. But I have a question for those of you who actually heve printed on metal.
How scratch resistant are these things?? I am afraid to touch it. It was packed EXTREMELY well, and I have it repacked until I understand how to handle it.
Have posted this same question to the FineArtAmerica community. Not much feedback yet.
** EDIT: I just got an email response from FineArtAmerica customer support. It reads:
"There is no coating on the metal prints, they are not scratch resistant.
So they should be treated as fine art prints."
