Meter / Battery Question

Good Morning,

I am evaluating a CL here in town and have read through the posts here before deciding to ask this question.

Battery Test: With a new battery cell, when I run the test, the needle deflects only when the shutter speed is <= 250. No deflection on 500 or 1000. Is there some other problem afoot?

I believe the meter is dead as well. No movement at all with the shutter tensioned and the winding lever pulled out. So the camera will need a replacement meter (well documented in this forum on pricing - thanks).

Other than that, the camera is in really fine shape. So I am trying to calculate how much I would need to invest to bring it up to specs.

for the meter to work, you need to remove the lens cap (dont laugh), and pull the winder slightly away from the body, and shutter speed off of B. the needle should then be active, doesnt matter if its on a 1.5 or 1.35v battery.

the different voltages basically translates to a different calibration, needle should read something in both cases. yours just sounds like you need to turn the ISO/ASA dial up or down to get it recalibrated (ie for the 500 and 1000 to be within range). so i think form what you said its actually a working meter.

press the silver button on the front of the body, the needle should swing too if its working.

In addition to what -kk- said, check the battery compartment and look for corroded wires. On vintage cameras, battery corrosion in the wires connecting to the battery are a common problem (certainly more common than dead meters -- a lot easier to replace too).

Update:

I spoke with Sherry and she instructed me to check the following for the battery test:

Battery Test

1. ASA 100 and shutter speed set to 1/60. A rectangular Bar should appear in the top right hand corner.
2. Tension the shutter and leave the winding lever pulled out.
3. Press the test button - needle should deflect to the notch.

OR

4. ASA 1600. Shutter speed at 1000. The rectangular bar will appear in the top right corner.
5. Tension the shutter and leave the winding lever pulled out.
6. Press the test button - needle should deflect to the notch.

Okay, so I performed that check and the battery test circuit works just fine.

However, the meter is not working at all.

Update:

Thanks Fallis. You mean at the photocell on the stick?
Or does the top need to come off?
